Hello Reader,
I’ve been thinking a lot about the stories we tell ourselves and how easily a story can become something we simply accept as truth, especially when we have carried it for years without ever stopping to ask where it came from or whether it still belongs to us.
In the latest episode of Life, Unedited, The Stories I Tell Myself, I’m talking about the stories we create around our experiences, the memories we carry, the things that trigger us, and the ways the past can continue to influence how we see ourselves and move through our lives today.
This conversation is personal for me because I’ve had to look at some of my own stories and recognize that what I thought was simply “who I am” was sometimes connected to something much older. I share one experience with my meditation teacher that helped me understand the fear behind my silence, along with a conversation with my godson that reminded me how powerful an old story can be when we continue to carry the emotions connected to it.
I think this is an important conversation because we talk so much about fixing ourselves. We are constantly looking for the next thing to heal, change or improve, when sometimes what we really need is to understand ourselves more deeply and become curious about the stories we have been telling ourselves.
There is something incredibly freeing about realizing that what happened then is not happening now. The woman you were when something happened is not necessarily the woman who is sitting here today, and you deserve the opportunity to look at your life from the perspective of who you have become.
I hope you’ll listen to this episode and sit with the conversation for a little while. If you know someone who has been questioning herself, trying to understand a pattern, or simply standing at a point in her life where she knows something needs to change, please share the episode with her.
Sometimes a conversation reaches us at exactly the moment we need it.
Many Blessings,
Monica Wisdom,
